Located in Santa Clarita California, The Gentle Barn Foundation was founded in 1999 to provide a place for abused farm animals and to help inner city and special needs children that have suffered mental, physical and emotional trauma. When the children interact with the animals, they learn trust, forgiveness, leadership skills and kindness.
Ellen DeGeneres and her her wife Portia De Rossi DeGeneres recently adopting to baby cows (calfs) and named them Madonna and Holy (Holy Cow).
There are 120 farm animals that have all been rescued from abuse. Both the animals and the children have gone through the pain of hurt, neglect, and misfortune, and by sharing love with each other they can begin the healing process. The farm is open on Sundays to the public and visitors can join in by brushing a horse, cuddling with a cow, or petting any of the many animals that are there.
To find out how you can help or adopt an animal simply visit The Gentle Barn website at or visit Ellen’s official show website. This is a non-profit organization and they are always looking for volunteers. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and they are under the age of 18, parental consent must be given. Animals that are housed here include horses, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, llamas, peacocks and emus.
